The Office of the Associate Dean provides a variety of services to undergraduate students, including:
- Collecting and processing appeals for the Weissman Committee on Academic Standing and the Pathways Appeal Committee
- Collecting and processing credit overload and pass/fail applications for Weissman students
- Approving independent study proposals
- Reviewing liberal arts ad hoc major proposals

Our office (VC, Room 8-265) is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Not all staff members are physically in the office on any given day. As such, the best way to communicate with staff members is via email.

Exciting New Course for Fall 2025
With AI becoming such an integral part of our world, PHI 3280 may be of particular interest to students in the Information Technology and Social Responsibility minor and to students majoring in Computer Science (BS degree) or Computer Information Systems (BBA degree).
PHI 3280 The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence
This course explores the ethical, social, and political implications of artificial intelligence (AI) and evaluates its impact on our lives. After a brief introduction to AI and Machine Learning, the course studies a variety of questions concerning the fairness, bias, manipulation, and accountability of a number of types of AI, including generative AI, deep fakes, and facial recognition technology. Students will learn to identify and evaluate key themes and ethical challenges that cut across these various contexts and technologies as well as the strategies that researchers and policymakers have proposed for addressing them.
Prerequisite: Any 1000-level course in Philosophy

COM 3021 Prerequisite Change – Effective FALL 2025
Effective Fall 2025, the prerequisite for COM 3021 is COM 2020.
Students who entered Baruch before Fall 2024, have maintained continuous attendance, and who entered Baruch with COM 1010 as freshmen or transfers, are not required to complete COM 2020. These students must request open-section permission to enroll in COM 3021 for Fall 2025 via the Communication Studies department’s online COM 3021 request form.

Pathways General Education Curriculum News – Science Requirements
EFFECTIVE FALL 2024: Students may select one course from the Life and Physical Sciences list and ANY course from the Scientific World list. Students are no longer required to take matching sets of lecture and lab courses as co-requisites.

Registration Permission Requests
Arts and Sciences courses:
Students who need registration permission for Weissman courses must contact the relevant academic departments; please check the department sites for contact information.
Business courses for Weissman majors:
Students in the following Weissman majors take business courses as part of their programs: Actuarial Science; Business Communications – Corporate Communication, Graphic Communication, and Business Writing specializations; Computer Science; Financial Mathematics; Music – Management of Musical Enterprises specialization; Economics-BA; and Statistics-BA.
A student who has been officially accepted into their Weissman major should not require registration permission for the relevant business courses.
Notes for Business Course Requests:
If you have not yet completed the official major declaration process, you may request permission to enroll in the upper-level business courses by clicking the course request link below. You must be eligible for official acceptance into the major to receive registration permission.
To gain admission to a major requiring upper-level (3000-level and above) business courses, you must have completed at least 45 credits, must have an overall Baruch GPA of 2.0 or higher, and must have satisfied your Pathways general education and your major’s mathematics requirements.
NOTE: Students pursuing the BA in Economics or the BA in Statistics must successfully complete all economics, mathematics, and statistics program prerequisites to gain acceptance into their major programs.
- The Associate Dean’s Office does not waive course prerequisites.
- The Associate Dean’s Office does not enter permission for closed sections. If the business class/section you want is full, you may use the Zicklin waitlist feature.
- The Associate Dean’s Office does not enter registration permission for optional business minor courses.
