Comparative Literature Minor

Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature

The minor in comparative literature provides students with a thorough knowledge of several national literatures through comparative and interdisciplinary study. Students must complete three courses at the 3000-level or higher, at least one of which must be a capstone, 4000-level course.

All courses are offered in English. No knowledge of the foreign language is required. Students are also encouraged to pursue the study of a foreign language.

For students who declare the minor Fall 2024 or later, the following courses are no longer applicable to the program:

• AAS/JPS 4905 Language, Literature, and Culture of Japan (formerly CMP 4905)
• AAS/JPS 4906 Critical Approaches to Japanese Popular Culture (formerly CMP 4906)
• AAS/FLM/JPS 4907 Film and Moving Image Culture in Japan (formerly CMP 4907). This course previously served as an elective within the CMP minor, not as a capstone.

Students are expected to complete the minor requirements in place at the time they are officially accepted into their programs. Please review the College Bulletin for the relevant academic year.
