MA Strategic Communication Thesis-Capstone Advisor Approval Form

Note: This form can also be used by students studying under the Corporate Communication program title as the course number is the same and the official course title has transitioned to Strategic Communication.

Once Faculty have provided signatures, forms should we submitted to WSAS.graduate.advisement@baruch.cuny.edu

Students are required to find both a Thesis advisor and a faculty reader for their Thesis project. These signatures, and the program Director’s Signature is required when submitting the form. It is the student’s responsibility to engage faculty to serve in these roles, and to secure their agreement to participate. Fully completed Thesis forms should be submitted no later than a week before the first day of the semester.

Here’s a link to a list of Faculty Advisor Biographies.

Students should also consider seeking support from the Writing Center. This is a link for graduate students working on long term projects like a thesis/capstone to set up reoccurring appointments with the same writing center advisor.

    Thesis/Capstone Virtual Information Session

Take place every semester during the first two weeks of class. Day/time information sent via email by the WSAS Graduate Studies Office. Registration required.

Who should attend? Students in their second semester of the program (with 9+ credits)

Why? Once students have 18+ credits, they need to be thinking about registering for either an IND study with their thesis/capstone advisor or the Thesis/Capstone Bootcamp

    Thesis/Capstone Colloquium

Each semester a thesis/capstone colloquium is held one or two days after the final day of classes. Specific date varies by semester. Start time usually 5 to 6pm. Currently, the presentations are given in-person. Family and friends are invited to join us on campus with Livestreaming for friends and family. **A presentation sign up is circulated 2-3 weeks prior to the presentation date by the Program Director. Please contact Caryn Medved for additional details. Caryn.Medved@baruch.cuny.edu

    Thesis/Capstone Submission to Readers

Two to Three Weeks before the thesis/capstone colloquium, projects must be shared with readers. Both advisors and readers are required to approve projects before students can sign up to present.

For more information, speak with your thesis/capstone advisor.

    Thesis/Capstone Grade Submission Deadline

Advisors must turn in student grades (pass/no pass) via CUNYFirst on or before each semester’s final grade submission deadline. Missing this deadline will delay a student’s graduation.

For more information, speak with your thesis/capstone advisor.

Submission of Final Drafts of Thesis/Capstone Projects

In pdf form, final copies must be submitted to the WSAS Graduate Studies Office within a week of colloquium presentations. Once Faculty have provided signature, these forms with a final copy of your Thesis or Capstone should we submitted to WSAS.graduate.advisement@baruch.cuny.edu

    Forms for final thesis submission.

Students are encouraged to submit simultaneously to CUNY/Academic Works for publication.

Thesis/Capstone projects may serve as one element of an application for doctoral work in communication and related fields. For more information on doctoral programs speak to your Thesis advisor and see the NCA Doctoral Programs Guide.

The MA program title of Strategic Communication replaced the title of Corporate Communication in June, 2025.
