Waivers and Resources for Undergraduate Students

    Overview

The Psychology Department prides itself in providing undergraduate students with exceptional programs for psychology majors, minors, and others wanting to fulfill their core requirements. Each of our majors is considered special and assigned a faculty member who is available to them for academic guidance on an ongoing basis. In addition, the Psychology Society and the Psychology Major Meetings provides students with numerous opportunities for assistance in graduate school aspirations or other career goals after graduation. Majors also have the opportunity to participate in internships located in some of New York City’s premier mental health facilities.

If you are considering Psychology, but are not yet declared or have another major and are considering switching to Psychology, please visit the Department Office at NVC 8-215 or contact psychdept@baruch.cuny.edu for more information.

    Becoming a Psychology Major

To become a psychology major you must first take the Introduction to Psychology (Psy 1001), a survey course of the field and a prerequisite to all advanced courses. Almost every chapter in the introductory psychology textbook represents a specialty area in psychology and as such can be intensely studied and form the basis of a career in psychology. A psychology major is required to complete a total of 25 credits in psychology.
