    Learning Communities

Learning Communities is an exciting program designed to enrich academic and social experiences and opportunities for incoming first-year students at Baruch College. First semester course schedules are created and assigned based on students’ incoming course credit and placements.  One course in select freshman blocks will be designated a learning community (LC) led by the faculty member teaching the course, who will have co-curricular activities that support the experience of the course.  Co-curricular activities may include cultural events on campus, visits to museums, concerts, theater, historical sites — and more!  Enrollment in the learning community courses will be limited to twenty students each, and a linked section of Freshman Seminar will have a roster with the same twenty students. Small classes enable students to connect with and rely on each other as they embrace new challenges and possibilities. The result is not only a springboard to academic success but also a strong cohort, a bond with friends and faculty that can last a lifetime. Learning Communities students have historically posted higher GPAs than their peers.
