French Minor

Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature

As globalization proliferates, instruction in francophone language and literature is increasingly an important advantage in business, teaching, translation, and other professional careers. Course offerings are of two types: language and literature conducted in French and literature courses conducted in English. The courses taught in French are designed to develop students’ command of modern languages for use orally and in writing, both in everyday experience and in the realm of literature and ideas.

Students who choose to develop their intellectual abilities in these areas may select two courses at the 3000-level or above from the French section of the department’s offering. To complete their minors, students must enroll in an appropriate capstone course. Any 4000- or 5000-level course in French may serve as the capstone course for the minor.

Students are expected to complete the minor requirements in place at the time they are officially accepted into their programs. Please review the College Bulletin for the relevant academic year.
