    Hebrew

Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature

    As a Minor

Hebrew is the only ancient language to have been revived as a modern spoken language. Today Hebrew still serves as the language of Judaism, and is also the official language of the state of Israel. Your study of Hebrew will afford you better appreciation of modern cultures.

Course offerings are of two types: language and literature conducted in Hebrew and literature courses conducted in English. The courses taught in Hebrew are designed to develop students’ command for use orally and in writing, both in everyday experience and in the realm of literature and ideas.

Students wishing to study Hebrew should select two courses at the 3000 level or above from the Hebrew section of the department’s course offerings. To complete their minors, any 4000-level course in Hebrew or an independent study in Hebrew will serve as the capstone course for the Tier III Minor requirement.
