Practicum & Internship
Students are required to complete experiential hours outside of the classroom, which takes place as a Practicum (100 hours), and as an Internship 1 (300 hours) & Internship 2 (300 hours) to meet the requirements of the MA in Mental Health Counseling program for graduation.
Practicum: 100 hours (this will take place in the Spring semester of your 1st year in the program)
Internship 1: 300 hours (this will take place in the Fall semester of your 2nd year in the program)
Internship 2: 300 hours (this will take place in the Spring semester of your 2nd year.)
Students complete their practicum and internship hours in various public and private clinical settings across the five NYC boroughs, Long Island, Westchester, and New Jersey.

- Addiction
- Forensics
- LGBTQ
- Children & Youth
- Eating Disorders
- Community based MHC Clinics
- Homelessness
- HIV centers
Students are encouraged to begin considering their placement sites as soon as they begin their program. Additional information on how students navigate the placement process for their practicum and internship will be shared during the start of the Fall semester in the 1st year of your program. Students are encouraged to discuss potential placement sites with the Mental Health Counseling faculty, Fieldwork Coordinator, as well as the Weissman Career Services staff.
