Talent Management: This course is designed to cover critical aspects of the design, implementation, operation, and evaluation of talent acquisition system. The primary focus will be employee recruitment, assessment, and selection systems from theoretical, practical, strategic and legal perspectives. Topics will include job analysis/competency modeling, measuring job-relevant characteristics, using assessment data to make employment decisions, and best practices for talent acquisition systems. |
PSY9705 | Applied Statistical Analysis | HR Analytics: This course is designed to introduce students to analytics and quantitative methods for making business decision about your people and demonstrating the value of human capital systems. The fundamental concepts in statistics and analytics, how to demonstrate the effectiveness of human capital programs and policies, how to understand key drivers of your employees’ behavior, and how to establish the links from human capital activities to the important outcomes in an organization’s value chain will be covered. Both implementation and strategic aspects will be considered. |
PSY9797 | Problems in Industrial Psychology II: Organizational Psychology | Organizational Psychology: This course will provide an understanding of the social and psychological foundations of how individuals and groups behave in work organizations and how organizations function. The primary focus will be on the application of behavioral science knowledge to the understanding of organizational life. Topics to be covered include individual perception, attitudes and values, motivation, decision-making, organizational justice, ethics and corporate social responsibility, emotions, stress, communication and culture. |
PSY9751 | Leadership and Group Processes | Leadership in Organizations: This course is designed to provide an understanding of leadership theories and frameworks, and their application to the workplace. The science of leadership and its application to leaders and leadership systems in organizations will be considered. The course will also examine linkages between leadership and other organizational topics, such as innovation, change, diversity, and cross-cultural issues. |
PSY99001 | Executive Capstone Seminar I | Executive Capstone Seminar I: This course is designed to guide students in meeting the capstone requirement of the executive master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology. Consisting of an applied project with emphasis given to the design and development data driven development and coaching plans including analyzing assessment data and identifying empirically support learning strategies under the guidance of a faculty advisor. This serves as the first course for the capstone sequence. This course is only open to students in the executive masters program in industrial and organizational psychology. |
PSY9786 | Seminar in Contemporary Psychological Topics: Performance Management | Performance Management: This course provides a background in research and practices in performance and competency assessment at the individual, team, and organizational level. A number of assessment strategies, data gathering procedures, decision making strategies, and procedural aspects are addressed. Both implementation and strategic aspects are considered. The course balances and academic and practical perspectives providing a sense of how performance management is actually implemented as well as the individual, organizational, and legal implications of performance management systems. |
PSY9703 | Design of Psychological Research | Organizational Research Methods: This course covers the many forms and approaches to organizational research and measurement as useful tools for management and human resources to track and improve organizational productivity and performance. This course will provide basic skills needed to conduct and critically evaluate organizational research. |
PSY9750 | Learning & Development | Learning & Development: This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of learning and development as a tool for improving organizational talent and for enhancing the learning climate of organizations. The course will cover such topics as: (a) understanding the components of a needs analysis, its relationship to competence modeling, the necessity of understanding organizational climate and culture, and the necessity for organizational buy-in; (b) designing training programs to capitalize on our current understanding of how adults learn; (c) understanding training and development within the context of modern workplace; (d) understanding how to evaluate the utility of training and development interventions and how to maximize organizational utility of training. |
PSY9786 | Seminar in Contemporary Psychological Topics: Organizational Teams | Organizational Teams: As organizations become increasingly team based, it is critical to understand of how teams can be effectively created and led to achieve desired individual, team, and organizational outcomes. This course will focus on the science of groups and teams by exploring various topics relevant to team functioning and effectiveness (e.g., team cognition, team behaviors, team leadership, team composition). Interpersonal processes and structural characteristics that influence the effectiveness of teams, individual behavior in face-to-face interactions, and the dynamics of interpersonal relationships will be covered. |
PSY9786 | Seminar in Contemporary Psychological Topics: Diversity in Organizations | Diversity in Organizations: This course is designed to provide a foundation of knowledge about diversity and discrimination in organizations. Although the focus of the class will be on organizational contexts, we will read from interdisciplinary and broad literatures in order to comprehensively understand these cross-cutting concepts. Diversity will be considered across many realms, including race/ethnicity, gender and sexual identity, physical appearance and abilities, age, and other variables. The course will explore basic theoretical concepts related to discrimination, including but not limited to, social identity, group behaviors, stereotyping, and stigma. Additionally, the course explore multilevel strategies and interventions that organizations may use to respond to these critical issues. |
PSY9786 | Seminar in Contemporary Psychological Topics: Organizational Development | Organizational Development: This course provides an overview of planned organizational change (OD) methodologies and techniques for assessing and achieving optimal organizational performance in a changing work world. Focus will be given to the application of theoretical foundations, models, and methods as well as the stages of OD work, including entry, diagnosis, and intervention. The roles and challenges of internal and external change agents are considered. |
