MA/MFA Application Fee Reimbursement
This grant provides financial assistance up to $500 to current and former Harman students, or staff at Baruch student literary magazines and newspapers, who apply to graduate creative writing or journalism programs.
About The Grant
This grant recognizes that the costs of applying to graduate school can be prohibitive and aims to ensure that application costs are not a deterrent for qualified students seeking to advance their education.
Eligibility
The grant is available to current and former Harman students, i.e., students who’ve been enrolled in or are currently taking a workshop taught by a Harman Writer-in-Residence, or students who have been staff members at Baruch literary magazines (Encounters or Refract) or newspapers (Dollars & Sense or The Ticker). The funds must be applied to graduate school application fees only.
Applicant must:
- Be applying to an accredited MFA program in creative writing or MA in journalism for the upcoming academic year
- Have taken at least one Harman workshop or worked on the staff of the aforementioned student publications
- Have graduated from Baruch no earlier than 2020
- Show financial need (see requirements for essay)
- Show proof of his or her application to selected graduate school programs, including proof of paid application fee
To apply, applicant must submit the following information:
- Your name, address, email and telephone number
- Year you graduated from Baruch
- Semester(s) you were enrolled in a Harman course, and name of writer-in-residence who taught each course, or semester(s) on the staff of student publication, with proof (name on masthead)
- List of MFA or MA programs you’ve applied to, and application fee for each (with proof of application & payment)
- Amount you are requesting, up to $500
- A one-page essay (300 words maximum) describing (a) why you are pursuing graduate study, (b) what role the Harman course and/or your work in student publishing has played in your decision and (c) why this grant would be of significant assistance to you (including a brief description of your financial situation)
