Poets & Writers Internship
Through the generous support of the Harman Family Foundation and by arrangement with Baruch’s Sidney Harman Writer-in-Residence Program, Poets & Writers, a literary magazine, is now offering two-month, flexible, paid summer internships to students who have taken or are currently taking a Harman class. The internship is geared towards those who are not only interested in writing, but want to learn about every aspect of running such a publication, from social outreach, to website management, to event planning and artist engagement.
How the Internship Works
At the end of the spring semester, students who are interested in applying for the internship position may send their CV and cover letter to the Harman Program Director Professor Esther Allen via email:
Esther.Allen@baruch.cuny.edu
The resumes and letters will be sent to the P&W team for review, and accepted applicants will be notified soon after. The internship, as of now, is remote. Hours are flexible (10AM – 6PM ET) and in the past the interns have worked part-time, 20 hours a week for two months, for a total of 160 hours.
More About Poets & Writers
Founded in 1970, Poets & Writers is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization serving creative writers.
Our mission? To foster the professional development of poets and writers, to promote communication throughout the literary community, and to help create an environment in which literature can be appreciated by the widest possible public.
Each year, tens of thousands of poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers benefit from P&W’s programs, which include its eponymous magazine; a dynamic, information-rich website; financial support for readings and other literary events; and sponsorship of several notable writing prizes and awards.
Alongside the actual publication, P&W has compiled several databases available for free to all to use, including the Directory of Poets & Writers (information on over 9,000 authors), databases of literary magazines and journals, small and independent presses, literary agents, MFA programs, writing contests, and literary places; a national literary events calendar; and select content from Poets & Writers Magazine. All of these can be accessed on their website.
