Spring 2024 Writer-In-Residence

 The Spring 2024 Harman Writer-In-Residence will be writer Daphne Palasi Andreades.

Andreades’ debut novel Brown Girls was published in 2022 to critical acclaim with the The New York Times naming the novel an editor’s choice. A sprawling modern odyssey played out on the streets of Queens, New York, Andreades weaves a tapestry of different cultures bound together through slice-of-life vignettes and a universal choral voice. Her fiction often explores diaspora, immigration, and the far-reaching effects of colonialism and imperialism. Praise for Brown Girls has noted, “Seething with raw, exuberant life, Brown Girls is an epic told in the register of the yearning, vivid experiences of its characters. It’s hard to think of another book with more spirit or a keener eye” (Alexandra Kleeman). Andreades is the recipient of a 2018 O. Henry Prize and her work has been included in an anthology of prize winning stories curated by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Daphne is a graduate of The City University of New York—Baruch College and Columbia University’s MFA Fiction program, where she was awarded a Henfield Prize and a Creative Writing Teaching Fellowship. She will be the second Baruch alumnus to be a Harman Writer-In-Residence.
